Joseph Bernstein, PhD
Associate Director of Career Advancement

Joseph Bernstein joined Career Advancement at the University of Chicago in the fall of 2013. As the Associate Director for Student Preparation, Joe oversees the Graduate Services team that provides career services to the Biological, Physical, and Social Sciences Divisions as well as the Humanities Division, Divinity School, and Institute for Molecular Engineering. In addition, he serves as Liaison to the Physical Sciences Division, working with administrators and faculty on a broad spectrum of career programming for graduate students, alumni, postdoctoral fellows, and undergraduates interested in graduate school. Prior to joining the Career Advancement staff, Joe worked as the Communications Lead for the Physical Sciences and Engineering Directorate at Argonne National Laboratory. He started his career as a postdoctoral fellow and appointee in the Argonne High Energy Physics Division and Leadership Computing Facility. Joe has engaged in extensive international travel and is founder of the Talk To Joe The Astronomer education and public outreach program. Joe received his PhD in Astronomy and Astrophysics from the University of Michigan in 2008, MS in Physics from the University of Kentucky in 1998, BA in Physics from the University of Chicago in 1996, and AS in Science from the College of DuPage in 1993.
